Engagement Shoot Adventures at Airfield Falls

At RFP, we believe every love story deserves to be captured in the most beautiful way possible. A major component in accomplishing this comes down to the location you choose for your engagement session.

That’s why we were thrilled to recently offer a series of free engagement photo shoots at one of Fort Worth’s hidden gems: Airfield Falls Conservation Park. This location has it all – a stunning backdrop for photos, the light of golden hour illuminating the wildlife, and a connection to the area’s history.

A Hidden Gem in Fort Worth

Airfield Falls provides more than just a pretty backdrop—it’s a piece of Fort Worth's history.

Tucked away in Westworth Village, Airfield Falls Conservation Park is a part of the Trinity Trail, a system of scenic walkways and biking trails more than 100 miles long. One thing that makes this park unique is a McDonnell Douglas C-9 aircraft standing as a reminder of the area’s rich aviation heritage.

As you pull up to the park, you’re immediately greeted by the impressive sight of the aircraft’s wings before you head into the heart of the park. Even if you are not an aircraft aficionado (we certainly are not), the towering presence of this machinery juxtaposed with the natural surroundings sets the tone for a visit that’s both awe-inspiring and reflective.

Just behind this piece of aviation history is a picnic seating area overlooking a grand willow tree that adds a touch of whimsy to the scenery as you walk onward down the path to a tree-lined walkway leading to the only natural waterfall along the Trinity Trail.

While the waterfall’s flow can be unpredictable – slowing to a crawl in the height of summer – the park also offers three picturesque bridges, a wide open field bordered by tall trees that grant it a more private and intimate feeling, and an overlook bench for plenty of photo spots.

With all that it offers, it’s no wonder this spot has become a favorite among local photographers and nature lovers.

The Magic of Golden Hour at Airfield Falls

If you’ve ever wondered why photographers rave about golden hour, a visit to Airfield Falls during this time will give you all the answers.

Golden hour—those precious moments just after sunrise or before sunset—bathes everything in a warm, soft glow perfect for photos. At Airfield Falls, the golden light filters through the trees, dances off the creek, and creates natural highlights that are simply irresistible.

However, because this location is so popular among photographers, couples should be prepared for a bit of competition for the best spots during golden hour.

The Engagement Shoots: Moments We Captured

During our engagement shoots at Airfield Falls, we had the pleasure of working with several wonderful couples, each bringing their unique energy and love story to the session. While the waterfall was unfortunately low during our visits, we found plenty of other stunning spots that more than made up for it.

One of the highlights was capturing the couples on a metal and concrete bridge at the start of the walking trail.

While the bridge itself may not be particularly remarkable, it is perfectly positioned to catch the soft, golden hour light filtering through the tree coverage to illuminate the willow tree for a tough of fairy tale magic in the background. The combination of the creek’s gentle flow and the natural light made for some truly breathtaking shots.

Another favorite spot was the walking path leading toward the falls, where the trees form a natural archway, leading to some truly enchanting photos. Each session was unique, but all were united by the beautiful golden hour light that made everything look just a little more special.

  • Arrive Early: Given the popularity of this location, it’s a good idea to arrive early, especially if you’re planning to shoot during golden hour.

  • Embrace the Natural Surroundings: Airfield Falls offers a variety of natural backdrops, so don’t be afraid to explore different areas of the park.

  • What to Wear: Consider outfits that complement the natural tones of the park—earthy colors, soft pastels, or even bold colors that pop against the greenery.

  • Check Water Levels: If you’re hoping to include the waterfall in your photos, be sure to check the water levels beforehand, as the flow can be unpredictable.
